Whether they admit it or not, parents do have a hard time accepting and going through the fact that they have a child or even children with special needs. The disability of their child and the parents’ growing concern over their future, especially when they fare off independently as adults, is what crushes their heart all the more. The deprivation of normalcy because of their child or children’s disability is but a temporary stereotype, and is helped overcome by therapists, peer groups and special educational institutions. These stakeholders make sure that the child grows up to the closest to normalcy that the child can get. The younger they go through the tedious training, the more confidence that the parents have in the life of their children in the future as purely independent citizens.
However, there are a few isolated incidents that somehow bring the parent back to the basic and misaligned stereotype, worries and all. A video clip of a special education teacher who physically abused a deaf and mute student who had a hard time with the subject was the hot news that people around the country were full of remorse of. Though authorities have given the due penalty for such heartless educator, the issue never died down.
The two special education facilities in our city managed to restore the confidence of the public through security systems that were put all over the facilities’ premises including classrooms and offices. The smart security cameras and other devices were worth the investment after all. The institution even received an increase in rating from the local education authorities for their speedy effort.
